Class Memos for Physics 155, Astronomy
- No Labs week of August 25. Laboratory sessions start Tuesday, September 2, 2008; make up of the missing Monday labs (due to Labor Day holiday) will be announced in class.
- We'll schedule Observing sessions starting today--see memo below.
- For Fall 2008, the lab schedule in PB408 will be announced.
- We'll schedule Observing sessions every clear night Monday through Thursday
at 9:30pm EDT.. Check the observatory website before coming over, to verify that
session will be held. (Sometimes even though you can see a star, it is
too murky to hold a session!): http://www.phys.uconn.edu/observatory/ . Come to the 4th floor of the Physics building and wait in the hall near
the stairs leading up to the roof observatory; the night observer will meet
you there and conduct the session, which will last about an hour. Bring
a flashlight, but use a red filter (or nailpolish) on the bulb so it won't
ruin the dark adaption of others. Be sure to wear a sweater, since it gets
chilly after dark now. Remember, your report is due one week after the session
you attend; late reports receive half credit. Your first report must be
turned in by midterm to receive points for your grade; after this
the first report receives no points, but you can do an extra report so you'll
receive full credit for the 3 reports we include in your grade. Try to spread your reports out over the semester, doing approximately one per month; we look at different objects in September and December!
